Welcome to the Snakes Meadow Solar Farm project website. European Energy UK is developing the project near Stagsden, Bedfordshire. Once operational, Snakes Meadow will generate up to 45.5MW of renewable electricity, enough to power around 11,500 homes and support cleaner, home-grown energy in the UK. The project has also been designed to deliver local benefits through landscaping, habitat creation and long-term biodiversity improvements.
Stated figures calculated using the Subnational Electricity Consumption Statistics 2005 to 2023 (DESNZ, 2024) based on average domestic consumption per household of 3,599kWh (Office for National Statistics, 2021)
Snakes Meadow Solar Farm
About the Project
Snakes Meadow Solar Farm is a solar development on land near Stagsden, Bedfordshire. The site extends across Bedford Borough, Milton Keynes and Central Bedfordshire. The development will include solar panels and supporting infrastructure such as transformers, internal access tracks, deer fencing and underground cabling needed to connect the project to the local electricity network.
The project has been carefully developed to respond to the character of the surrounding landscape. Existing public rights of way will be retained, and the design includes measures to protect and enhance local ecology, including new planting, hedgerow improvements and habitat creation. At the end of its operational life, the solar farm will be removed and the land restored.

Biodiversity
Our proposals include creating and enhancing habitats that provide food, shelter and nesting opportunities for local wildlife. We will continue to develop these plans as the project moves forward, and we welcome local knowledge and input from the community.
• Retaining and protecting existing habitats of local value
• Safeguarding protected and notable species during construction and operation
• Creating new habitats and landscape enhancements through planting
• Creating and strengthening hedgerows
• Planting meadow and butterfly grassland
• Providing additional nesting, refuge and overwintering habitats, including habitat piles, hibernacula, and bat and bird boxes where appropriate
Snakes Meadow Solar Farm Works and Timeline
Groundworks for Snakes Meadow Solar Farm are expected to begin in autumn 2026. This phase is likely to include initial site preparation, access arrangements and other enabling works ahead of the main construction programme. Once these works are sufficiently advanced, work will also begin on the substation.
Construction of the solar farm is currently expected to begin in early 2027. During this period, activity on site will include the installation of solar panels and supporting infrastructure. We will continue to keep local residents, parish councils and other stakeholders informed as the programme develops and more detailed information becomes available.

Snakes Meadow Solar Farm
The solar panels will be mounted with a maximum height of approximately 3.2m using frames fixed to the ground with piled posts or ground screws. Surface mounted feet may be used in specific areas where ground disturbance should be avoided. The solar panels generate Direct Current (DC) electricity, which is converted to electricity with Alternating Current (AC) for the local network by power inverters. String inverter units would be mounted behind the panels at intervals or alternatively approximately 10 central inverters would be used at maximum dimensions (4m (h) x 3.5cm (w) x 12m (l)).

Snakes Meadow Traffic Management
As discussed at the recent community meeting, we have now uploaded the Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP) for Snakes Meadow to this website. You can find it in the files section at the bottom of this page.
Construction traffic for the solar farm site will enter and leave via a new bellmouth access onto the A422. There is already an existing layby in this location, and most activity will take place from the land side, which should help keep disruption to a minimum while these works are carried out.
The cable route will connect the solar farm to the point of connection using the new site access, the A422, Hay Lane and West End.
Construction traffic for the new Point Of Connection will travel via Hay Lane and West End.
Communications and Engagement
We are committed to keeping local residents and stakeholders informed as the project progresses. This website will be updated with information on planned activity, key milestones and upcoming engagement opportunities.
We will also continue to engage with local communities, parish councils and other stakeholders to share updates and respond to questions as more detail becomes available.

Early Engagement Meeting
Thank you to everyone who attended our community engagement meeting on Weds 3rd June. We were pleased to welcome so many local residents and stakeholders, and we greatly appreciated the questions, comments and conversations throughout the evening.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to introduce the project, share the programme stages and outline the next steps as Snakes Meadow Solar Farm moves towards construction. I will post the slides here as requested on the night, and will continue to give regular updates
