Community Update: Notes from meeting 16/09/25
Sep 16, 2025
We wanted to share our notes from today’s meeting with the representatives from the Community Council and Carl Touhig, Head of Neighbourhood Services. The following points were discussed at the meeting, covering site activity, traffic management, and ongoing communication with the community.
Site Activity
- Litter picking is happening every day, and any stone spill from the temporary bell mouth is being swept up. A road sweeper is on site and will also clean the lane if needed, especially as the weather turns wetter.
- After a complaint about dust during the dry spell, we started damping down the site the very next day and continued for two weeks. Now that autumn is here, dust is no longer an issue and we don’t expect to need damping again until next year.
- A mobile speed gun is being used to make sure our 10mph site speed limit is followed. From this week, our traffic management team will also carry out random checks on the lane.
Traffic Management
- New speed limit signs (which clearly show they apply only to construction traffic) have been printed and should be in place next week.
- To avoid school times, our vehicles are currently being held for half an hour at the beginning and end of the school day. We’ve been asked if this should be extended, and we can adjust by 20 minutes if needed. Carl will check with PTU drivers to confirm if traffic is being seen outside of these times.
- The Community Council let us know that Councillor Gains checked the suggested alternative routes and found them difficult to use due to flooding, fallen trees, and potholes. Carl will arrange a survey of the route and report back on possible improvements.
- The new Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP) is ready and will be published on our website soon. Key points include:
• Extra traffic controls during busy times, in place until late October or mid-November when the site winds down for winter (and again in spring when deliveries restart).
• Around 60 HGV deliveries per week at present (about 12 per day), reducing by late October/November.
• A manual stop/go sign at the top of the lane and a manually operated traffic light at the bottom access to keep staff safe.
• Our Highways application for these traffic controls is being submitted today, and we hope the consultation period will be short given recent discussions with both the council and community.
